Steve Nease: Tribute to a Local Artist
Civil Service Strikes in Canada

News is, of course, never lacking in controversial, and often polarizing, subjects and figures. For the editorial cartoonist, bearing in mind their representative voice, this can sometimes pose challenges. For Nease, the best approach is doing your research and forming an opinion.
"I approach them the same way as anybody that follows news stories would approach them. You read all the source information you can and you form an opinion on it and then come up with an idea to illustrate - to offer - that opinion."

One divisive issue that surfaces a lot in this collection is the various civil service strikes that took place in the 80s and 90s.
"When it comes to civil service strikes, I always tended to look at those from the point of view of a tax paying citizen. I am one of those people that rely on those services so I didn’t really appreciate when they would strike and I think the vast majority of the population didn’t appreciate it either, so I would generally take the public’s side in those matters."

The irony of a stamp "commemorating" a mail strike is not to be missed
