John Fletcher Fulford (1858-1950) was active in Brighton between 1885 and 1895. He specialized in portrait studio work. He placed a half-page advertisement in the front section of the 1886 Union Publishing Co's Farmers' & Business Directory for the counties of Durham, Northumberland, Peterborough and Victoria. He confidently assured his potential clients of the following services - “All Kinds of Photos from Pocket to Life Size Finished in first class style at Reasonable Rates. Strict attention paid to copying and enlarging from Old Photos to Ambrotypes, and Finished in Crayon and India Ink, or Water Colors. Well assorted stock of Fancy Frames and Mats continually on hand at very low prices.” Fulford's photographs of the town appeared in both The Toronto Mail and The Brighton Ensign. His career in Brighton lasted for approximately a decade before moving to the U.S. in 1900.
