In reference to the L.C. Bailey residence [p.14 online/ p.95 atlas], the following comment was made (February 2014): In 1923 my grandparents, Harry and Norma Fowler purchased this house and they lived here with their children, Claude, June and Betty (my Mom). My grandfather served on the Colborne town council for many years and my grandmother founded the first chapter of the Eastern Star #82 in 1921,which still exists today in Brighton. My Mom has been a life long member. My grandfather and great grandfather owned a tobacco wholesale business in the Scougale block which they purchased in 1915 .
At the front of the building V.G. Cornwall had a clothing and dry goods store and tailor shop. Lam Sam had a Chinese restaurant (he lived above it) and my Mom's uncle, Claude had his dentist office above Cornwall's store. On Division Street, Captain Troop had an express railroad office. Lillian Redfearn had a coal and wood office and Mr. McArthur, the funeral director had a little office and parlor and then my grandfather's warehouse. Above the stores were 2 or 3 apartments which they rented out. In 1938 my grandparents moved to Cobourg.
