A Library Says A Lot About A Town, 1852 - present
The Brooklin Community Centre & Library

Fast forward to 2005 and Brooklin had again outgrown its public library. The Town of Whitby selected the architectural firm Perkins+Will to design a new library and community centre to replace the now outdated library and to combine community services in one building in the centre of the historic downtown.

The former Brooklin Public Library was demolished in 2009 and replaced with the new Brooklin Community Centre and Library (BCCL). The BCCL incorporates architectural elements that reflect Brooklin's agricultural roots: the Township Hall, the Brooklin Mill, and the area's surviving timber barns all inspired the barn-like design and a-frame roof of the new building. The three distinct facilities - library, gymnasium, and community space - are nestled among the historic remnant forest and the Lynde Creek.

In 2010, the BCCL officially opened. The Whitby Public Library was awarded the Ontario Library Association New Building Award in 2013.
