Firstbrook Bros. Box factory was established in 1919 using one of the buildings from the failed Smelter operation. Products the factory made included butter and liquor boxes.
This secondary industry was a boon to the area, providing employment and purchasing timber from farmer's woodlots.
With the arrival of the depression and cardboard, demand for wooden boxes declined. The box factory closed in the early 1930s.
