Eventually, she became a frequent writer on Whitby news and happenings for local newspapers, the Globe (Toronto), and the Toronto Daily Star. Ruddy wrote for the Globe under the pen name Lisburn Larne and had a recurring column called “With the Birds and Lisburn Larne".
