By 1935, Marjorie had established herself as the only commercial photographer in Whitby and became the official photographer for the Whitby Police Department.

Many of her negatives contain images of car accidents and crime scene investigations. Her role expanded in the 1940s as she became the official photographer of the Whitby Public Utilities Commission.

In 1946 she purchased a studio space at 143 Brock Street South and lived in the apartment above her studio. In 1949, she became the first woman elected to Town Council.
