We are in a rest gulley and I have a nice box of books and odds and cards and your letters and the bad Kats photo with a Cat drawn on the outside and my blankets and a set of boxing gloves (I haven’t used them yet) and my valise and rubber pillow for the night. I had a very good one: bully beef and… with a little milk in and jam, and then bread and jam and (milky) tea to finish up. Guess you had mutton and veggies and apple tart. Am I right?

Gray, my dugout mate is a great birdman and knows them all and knows all about Grandpa and Lilford. There are ravens and crested larks and some king of geese here and lots of little birds.

We are just going to get turned in for the night now in our dug out and are very comfy. You bet I have a large share of the dug out, poor Gray must be a very impatient person, specially when my… piled up… falls all over him at midnight.
