Timeline
The main lumber operations in the Thessalon area were as follows:

Dyment Lumber Company first mill, 1876-1888. Second mill built after fire, 1888-1906. It was located at the south end of Main Street.

Thessalon Lumber Company, Purchased Dyment Mill 1906, and operated one year before moving to Nesterville, 1907-1915.

Bishop Lumber Company, Nesterville, 1915-1925.

Saginaw Salt and Lumber Company,
Hope Lumber Company, 1912-1920. Sold to James L. Crane, renamed Crane Lumber Company, 1920-1927; Crane reopened mill in Thessalon, 1931-1939.

Birchland Veneer established on part of original Saginaw site by J. B. Morgan 1959-present. Thessalon.

Gordon Mill, existed in the 1890s and became the Asam Basket Factory, which operated 1920-1936. Thessalon.

Burtis Mill was built using portions of Gordon Mill, 1903-1912; destroyed by fire in 1912. Located at Carolyn Beach Bay. Thessalon.

Midway Lumber Mill was established by J. B. Morgan in Sherwood, Thessalon Township, 1948-present.



There were also a number of secondary mills in the area, including:

The Holcombe Mills, which was located in Little Rapids and included both a Gristmill and a Sawmill. Both mills were destroyed in 1920 fire.

Clinton Sash and Door Mill was located in Thessalon in the 1880s.

Milltown Mill, was located on the upper Thessalon River, circa 1880-1920.

Shaw Sash and Door Mill, Thessalon, existed from 1880-1915.

Thessalon Woolen Mill, operated from 1897-1908. In 1919 it became Thessalon Wood Products.

Algoma Customs and Smelting Company operated briefly in 1908.

Firstbrook Box Factory used some smelter buildings when established. It existed from 1919 to 1930.
