The Hope Lumber Company, owned by E.B.Foss, came into existence after the Saginaw Salt and Lumber Company was purchased in 1912. It operated under the Hope Mill name until 1920 when it was sold to Crane Co. In 1927, the mill was moved out of Thessalon.

This aerial photo shows a more modern mill on the site of the former Saginaw/Hope/Crane mills.

It is easy to see how proximity to forest resources and great lakes transport to markets made Thessalon an ideal mill location.
