The Saginaw Salt and Lumber Company established a mill in Thessalon in 1908 after lobbying by Thessalon Mayor Sam Hagan and council. A monetary donation towards mill construction, some land donated by the Dyment Lumber Company and the promise of a CPR spur line no doubt helped seal the deal.
